Certification & Membership

Certification

A Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) is a person who is a graduate of an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited program and has passed a rigid national competency examination.   Upon graduation, students receive an Associate in Science degree in Veterinary Technology and are eligible to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE).  Veterinary technicians function as client educators, laboratory technicians, and advanced nursing care providers.

We encourage all technicians who have graduated from an accredited program to obtain their certification with their state association or governing body. Certification with the FVTA is on a 2-year cycle; on December 31st of odd-numbered years. The FVTA requires 15 RACE approved CE credits every 2 years for certification renewal.
